Something About a Wedding?

Yes, there was a wedding on 17 October 2013. Probably there were many weddings on this day but the one in which I participated by dancing with and giving away the bride is the one you’ll read about here. Briefly and to the point, the youngest daughter became wed to a fine young man (younger than me, anyway).  Now begins the “ever after” part of how almost every story involving a princess and prince ends — “…and they lived happily ever after.”

The front view of the bed & breakfast. There was levity, smiles, and all manner of jovial conversation in the party. And that was before the wine was served!

The small intimate wedding was held in a stunning bed & breakfast that also catered the event.  The grounds were the typical rolling gentle hills found in the northern Virginia country side. Green grass, blue skies, and puffy white clouds.

The gazebo where the vows were to be exchanged. Rain inhibited this ourtdoor event but was carried on inside without impact to spirits. The ceremony was to take place on a back patio of the main building.  However, by early afternoon, the puffy white clouds closed in on the blue sky and a light rain had begun to fall a half hour before the vows were to be exchanged. Plan B wasn’t rehearsed but then neither was Plan A, so it mattered little to anyone. The bride and groom stayed focused on their primary mission.

Wedding_01Of course the happy ending to the wedding was not only seeing the ceremony but enjoying the party that followed. Dinner around the table included stories about the newly weds by friends and family that gave way to both tears and guffaws! Life is full of both and nobody is immune to either.

All in all, it was an outstanding party and we pray it will be the beginning of their “happily ever after.”

A tall pumpkin is the new couple's name carved into a pumpkin framed by ornate scroll work.
